Emergency Student Grants

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steven Carr @ 4:53 pm

The Brown Ink Society, a group formed to honor the memory of Steve Hollander, makes grants to students recommended to its attention by faculty and staff.  The Society provides grants of up to $300 to academically deserving students faced with financial emergencies that would significantly but temporarily disrupt their studies.  Generally, the Society does not award money for books or supplies.  Thus far, nearly $40,000 has been distributed to students thanks to the generous donations made by faculty, staff and retirees.  Last year, 35 awards were made totaling approximately $9800.

If you are a student who fits the circumstances described above, you can contact any professor who can refer your situation to the Society.  No student will receive more than $300.00 per semester.

Sexual Violence Project Orientation Meeting

Sexual assault is the most under-reported of all crimes. College women are at higher risk for sexual assault than their non-college peers, but preventing sexual assault on campus is an issue for women and men. Learn how to become less vulnerable to assault, and help take the first steps toward making the IPFW campus a safe, healthy environment for everyone.

Meeting with External Program Reviewers

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steven Carr @ 6:54 pm

From the chair:

If you teach a course with communication majors (undergraduate or gradaute), please STRONGLY ENCOURAGE your students to consider stopping by to meet with our two external program reviewers next Thursday, 9/17 in ET 206 from 2:00 – 3:30.  They do not need to stay the entire time or be there right at 2:00 – it’s more of a drop in and out.

We really need for the reviewers to have an opportunity to talk with students and find out what students feel are the strengths and weaknesses of the program, what do they feel would help the program, what areas do students wish we had or had more of?

If you could let students know this week and remind them next week, that would be very helpful.

Thanks for your help,

Marcia Dixson
Chair
Department of Communication
